Yes! Finally a Spanish teacher who tells it like it is with the verb GUSTAR! I'm in my 7th year teaching Spanish and for some reason I'm never given a text book that says anything other than "I like". I try telling the kids "it pleases me" but . . . maybe if I can get them to watch your podcast.
Cool.

Me llamo Remco y soy hollandés!
Me gusta mucho escuchar la música en español, como Juanes, Los Bacilos y Manu Chao.
Probo estudiar español en leendo (leando?) los libros españoles muy fáciles y en hablando con mis amigos españoles.
Tengo una problema para pronunciar el "r", y espero que tu sitio va me ayudar a aprender.

Hello from Liverpool, England. Just want to say a big thank you for this podcast. I've been trying to learn Spanish for almost a year now and have been searching for something like this... thank goodness I've finally found it!! All the books and classes I've been to have been pretty uninspiring, but these podcasts are excellent and have really helped m, especially my grammar! Love the fact they are so short and to the point, and presented with such enthusiasm! Can't wait for the next one Larry! Thanks again, Jenny

Thank you everyone for all of your many positive comments and wise suggestions. I have been reading all of the comments on this site, and have been doing the best I can to respond to your emails. The feedback has been very encouraging.

I wanted to take a minute and answer Lauren's question from the comment above.

When you are talking about liking a person, it is best not to use the "Me gusta" construction. Me gusta is used for liking things and actions.

When you like a person, it is better to use the verb "caer," which is literally "to fall." You will still construct the phrase in a similar way as "me gusta."

For example, "I like you" would be,
"Me caes (tú) bien." - which literally means, "To me, you fall well."(This is the Tú informal form)

or

"Me cae bien, usted" = "To me, you (formal) fall well."

Also, "I like him" would be "Él me cae bien."

Likewise, "I like them" would be "Ellos me caen bien." And so on.

In the same way, you may express your dislike of a person by using "mal" instead of "bien."

Example: "I don't like him" would be
"Él Me cae mal" or literally, "He, to me, falls badly."

Hope this helps.

Thanks again to all of you for watching Rolling R's and for your interest in learning Spanish.

Nos vemos,

Larry Keim

Hello Larry,

I am enjoying your podcast very much. It is muy importante to my Spanish studying. I had an idea I wanted to pass on. Is there a way you could recommend, whether on your podcast or website, some good Spanish singers that could be helpful in listening to in order to become more familiar with Spanish sounds and words as well as Spanish music culture. I suppose the same could go for movies. Thanks again.
